LAMBHILL STABLES NEWSLETTER – March 2010

5,000 copies printed – to be distributed to all residents in Lambhill.

Announcing start of building work on stables – 22nd March 2010

Should be completed November/December 2010 - opening January 2011. Saturday 17th April 2010: Open day; Barge trip.

Vote of thanks to all involved in producing this well presented publication.

 

2. APPROVAL OF MINUTES: 10th February 2010: Approved by LB; seconded by JBD

3. MATTERS ARISING FROM MINUTES: Nil

 

4. POLICE MATTERS: Report: 11.02.10 – 10.03.10 – 9 crimes.

3 road traffic offences: 1 housebreaking 27th Feb. (Ladbrokes, Kilfinnan St); 1 male assault; 2 breach of peace (detected); Undetected: Robbery at Ladbrokes, Kilfinnan St; 2 vandalisms

 

Next Police Surgery: Monday 22nd March 11-12 at Lambhill Housing Association offices.

 

i. Armed robbery at Ladbrokes bookmakers, Kilfinnan St:

Under investigation

ii. Vandalism to gravestones in Lambhill cemetery: Undetected. Being investigated. A great deal of damage. Recorded as “malicious mischief”.

iii. Vandalism to van in Glentanar Pl - Gael Sports: Under investigation.

? racial incident.

 

Reports of “burnt-out” car in Lambhill cemetery. Not included in crime report.

5. SECRETARY’S REPORT:

Incoming correspondence: City of Glasgow Licensing Board: Application for variation of premises licence: Bank Roll café, Sale of Alcohol: onsales seeking to increase onsale core hours to Mon to Thu from 7 am to 11 pm Fri & Sat from 7 am to 12 midnight & Sunday from 7 am to 11 pm. Any objections before Wed 7th April 2010 to Licensing Board, 235 George St.

 

6. TASK GROUP UPDATES:

(a) Allotments (FMcC) 200 signatures on petition.

Vote of thanks to FMcC and Councillors for their work on this item.

SEARCH – Land Ownership Scotland has been received.

Cost £191. Chair requested this be paid by L&DCC. No objections raised. Lambhill Allotments to form a limited company supported by Lambhill subjects. Aim will be to raise funds for long-term lease/purchase; raise necessary funds to convert area back to allotments. Volunteers requested to form Steering Group: The following members put their names forward: Eliz McPHAIL; Michael NAKONECZNYJ; Stephanie SIMPSON, John Barclay DOUGLAS; David CRUICKSHANK: Frank McCAMBRIDGE; Anne HUTCHINSON.

Reports of a caravan being recently placed in allotment area. Police to investigate.

(b) Planning permission (SS): Nil

(c) Police liaison (LB): Nil

(d) Litter (RL) Re cent “clean up” of canal bank – 86 bags of rubbish collected. RL organising another “clean up” - date and details to be announced at next meeting. YPF to be asked to be involved.

(e) Youth services liaison (SS): Ann Lawrance(YPF) to be invited to next meeting.

(f) History & Heritage (DP + DC) Thursday 10 am – History and Heritage Planning Group, 34 Glentanar Place.

(g) Community garden & Healthy walks (MN; RL)

i. COMMUNITY GARDEN: Welcome to Ann Dzakovic, Community gardener. Vegetable and herb gardens in progress. Lots of planting and weeding to be done. Everyone welcome to help. Deer: Reports of snares being set. Mutilated deer have been sighted in area of Possil Marsh.

ii. HEALTHY WALKS: Weather improving; numbers increasing (averaging 14 each week). “Next Step Event”: Thursday 25th March 10.30-12.30 Barmulloch Community Centre. (see RL for further info).

 

7. TREASURER’S REPORT: New allocation of funds received: £514.99 Bank balance: £797.28 Petty cash: £99.92

8. FUTURE OF ST. JOAN OF ARC SCHOOL: KW: Only part of the building n destroyed – assembly hall/dining hall undamaged. Interest expressed in retaining this part of the school. Could be used as a community hall. YPF could be interested as the Bungalow is now too small. Very expensive to restore - £1million. Mention of asbestos another issue. Would Lambhill Housing Association be interested? The site could be obtained and developed. DISPOSAL OF SITE: If site to be disposed of, it will be handed over to the City Property Company. £80,000 to demolish. Bovis, developers, have shown interest in the site. EMcP: Loss of school would be terrible for community, especially as the Cadder Community Centre is under threat.

 

SS: Attended meeting at St. Vincent’s school on Tuesday 9th March. Heated meeting – parents unhappy about distance children have to travel. Councillors intimated they had received no complaints from parents.

AH to attend another meeting at John Paul Academy in Summerston on Thursday 11th March. Will report to next meeting.

 

9. ANY OTHER COMPETENT BUSINESS:

(1) (DC) 9th March , launch at St. Matthew’s church, Balmore Rd – “Faith in throughcare” (FIT): Occupational activities in the process of rehabilitation for prisoners. Support network – getting people involved in meaningful activity.

(2) (DW) Strachur Wharf: On completion of building, trees that were destroyed should have been replaced. JMACK has looked out plans. 9 varieties of trees. Will check if trees replaced.

(3) (DC) Attended Social Work – Criminal justice awards-giving ceremony. Requests that we sponsor Michael N. and his team.

(4) (EMcP) Concern raised re parking around the “Bank Roll” Balmore Industrial Estate. Very limited parking available causing double-parking on roads. Roads around this area have become very busy. Review.
