M I N U T E S

1.                  APOLOGIES/INTRODUCTION/OPENING REMARKS

INTRODUCTION:   The Chair welcomed all to the meeting and invited everyone present introduce themselves.

            OPENING REMARKS:

(a)  The Chair announced “Canal Trip” to-morrow – Thursday 18th June 2009.    Workshop on board with senior members of community.   DVD and publications about heritage of district.   There will be similar publications about Lambhill.

(b) The Chair reported that Diane Beat, our Secretary, due to pressure of work, was unable to continue with her duties.  Volunteer requested  to take on role of Secretary.    Stephanie Simpson volunteered and was duly appointed 

 

2.                  APPROVAL OF MINUTES -  13th May  2009:  Approved by  JBD. Seconded by NB. 

 

3.         MATTERS ARISING FROM MINUTES:   Allotments/Stables/Kingarth house  See item 6

 

4.         POLICE MATTERS: 

            Crime figures:   16.05.2009 - 17.06.2009     3 road traffic offences, all detected.  5 street drinkers, all detected.  1 offensive weapon, detected.  2 vandalisms, not detected.  1 Theft of pedal cycle and attempt theft, detected.  

Allotments:   Meeting to take place with Turley Associates, Land Management

re management on behalf of Trustees.  FMcC produced map of the area.   Was greenspace;  GCC want to re-zone.   2/3rds  for building;  1/3 greenspace.  Development and Regeneration Services to be contacted.   No plans in place for development.    L&DCC would like this area to be restored to allotments.   Police stated they are willing to speak to local residents re situation in the area.  They stressed that all contacts to police would be anonymous.   Residents urged to report any incidents.   FMcC  has agreed to investigate present situation

 

Chair suggested we send letter to Superintendent of Police re lack of continuity in  community police attending meetings.   This is causing lack of confidence.  Cannot build up trust and confidence with police when they change so frequently.

 

There are a number of “hotspots” within Lambhill.  A task group to be set up to discuss.

 

New “football/play area” Complaints from residents:   Lots of litter - broken bottles.  Lack of litter bins.  Floodlights go off at 11 pm.  It was generally felt that this was too late – perhaps 9 pm?     Task group to be set up.

 

At this point the Police left the meeting.

 

5.         Megan HAGGER (Health Improvement Officer of Community Health Care Partnership).      MH distributed handouts re walking groups.   40 walking leaers.    11 walks up and running.  Duration:  1 hour.   Programme not yet available.   Request for volunteers to train as walk-leaders.    Training will take place 2nd July 9.30 – 4pm.   Three volunteers from L&DCC.  The meeting strongly approved of the formation of this group. We wished them every success and look forward to supporting walking groups in the Lambhill area..  

 

6.         UPDATE:   

 

(a)        ALLOTMENTS: Robert WATSON, (Allotments Officer, GCC, L.E.S.)

In Glasgow,   17 sites;  9 private.  Glasgow Council fees £31.50 per annum.  Concessions £25 per annum.   Provision of water and waste disposal and administrative support.   It is proposed that 1/3rd of site of Lambhill Allotment site be restored as allotments.  Local residents “first call”.  Several members present expressed an interest.  L&DCC to contact DRS and find out present position.  Cllr Kieran Wild to be contacted.

 

(b)        LAMBHILL STABLES:     Awaiting result from Lottery Application.    Garden going ahead.  Footpath being upgraded.

 

©         KINGARTH HOUSE:   Demolision completed. Cllr Jim Mackechnie not present to report on future plans.  

 

7.                  SECRETARY’S REPORT:   

(a)  Notice of “Summer Sale” at St. Matthew’s Church, Balmore Rd. Saturday 20th June.

(b)  Photocopy of plans for new play area for young children shown to meeting.  Hopes to be started at end of 2009 and completed by Easter 2010. A public meeting will be held before works starts.

     

      Former secretary:   Letter of  “thank you” to be sent to Diane Beat.   Action SS

 

8.                  TREASURER’S REPORT:    Bank balance £5,467.90       Cash in hand  £35.13

            Treasurer circulated report re Canal Area Committee Grants.

 

9.                  Any other competent business:

VW:   

(a)      Speed limit of 20mph not being adhered to.  Do we need traffic calmers?

(b)       Road surface at 96 Knapdale Street has a large gap in the centre of the road.  .

(c )   Kings Place. “Fly-tipping”. Black bags being dumped at entrance to allotment area..              Also complaints of rubbish being dumped outside fast food “take-away” shop.

 

10.      DATE & TIME OF NEXT MEETING:   Wednesday 12h August 2009 at 7 pm.
